Facilitates the conception and development of community-based clinical research satellite units based at UH System entities. Establishes the operations, including policies and procedures, to promote access and ensure responsible conduct of research activities in these locations. Liaison to clinical research teams and the administrative leadership of the host medical centers. Represents the department at relevant institution meetings and interfaces with critical centers within UH (Center for Clinical Research and Technology and all clinical departments), CWRU including the Cleveland Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative (CTSC), and the William T. Dahms Clinical Research Unit (DCRU).

Essential duties include:
Develops distinctive community-based clinical research sites to facilitate and expand the recruitment and conduct of clinical/translational research projects for investigators within the UH system.
Allocates and supervises resources effectively. Demonstrates effective leadership and management of specialized staffing services for diverse clinical research projects and day-to-day supervision of DCRU staff allocated to community-based clinical research sites. In coordination with CCRT resources, must be customer-focused and able to respond quickly and effectively to requests for staffing. Must be able to work effectively with clinical researchers to identify and manage their needs and negotiate reimbursement/payment for staff services
Advocates and coordinates specialized services for diverse clinical research projects bringing investigators, community-patient cohorts, and community-targeted research together. Serves as a liaison to other CTSC elements to identify and coordinate resources to support community-based research and community education programs to promote the benefits of research.


Position Requirements:

Minimum 5 years of progressive clinical research experience required to have acquired sufficient operational knowledge to be able to set up a research program and understand the regulatory standards for research staff and processes; research certification is required. Demonstrated ability to facilitate change. Demonstrates skills in human relations with supervisory experience, preferred, in managing research staff and resources. Excellent communication, decision making and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize the work of multiple projects. Evidence of potential to provide administrative leadership. Requires administrative knowledge of the research mission and operations of both academic and community-based medical centers. Excellent interpersonal relationships; Able to work with minimal direct supervision in an ambiguous environment Requires knowledge of medical terminology and patient care delivery; Prefer knowledge of research regulations, both internal and external. Understanding of current NIH, DHHS, OHRP, and FDA guidelines governing human subject research. Demonstrated proficiency in use of PC and all MS Office software. Must be able to travel to multiple locations within the UH System.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor of Arts/Science with experience as a Research Nurse and/or Clinical Research Coordinator (BSN in Nursing preferred) Master?s Degree in a related field with experience in research administration can be considered Supervisory experience preferred to be able to manage time, projects, staff and resources.

License Requirements:

Research Certification (CRA, CCRC, RAC, CIP) is required. Certification in Human Subjects Protection (must be obtained within 3 months of hire)
